HELP for HAITIAN EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS
Dear Friends of Momentum:
We are as shocked and saddened as everyone about the recent tragedy in Haiti. We thank all our customers who have inquired about the well-being of the Haitian artisans. We carry products from two prominent cooperatives in Haiti, Caribbean Craft and Comite Artisanal Haitien (CAH).
There has not been word yet from Caribbean Crafts but we have learned from Giesel, the main contact for CAH, that the environment is chaos and that the fence walls around CAH collapsed. She is in the process of contacting artisans and learned that the homes of two families were destroyed. She ended with, “Thanks for caring and keeping us in your prayers!”
Below are some links to a few relief organizations. Monetary donations to these groups (and others we undoubtedly left out) are one of the best ways we can help right now- small donations add up. Another way to help is to continue purchasing fairly traded Haitian crafts. Our artisans have told us over and over again that the fastest way for their families and communities to recover from disaster is to get back to work. At Momentum, we are eager to make our next order of Haitian products our largest one ever, to demonstrate to the folks at Caribbean Crafts and Comite Artisanal Haitien that we care about their immediate and long term well being.
Donating only takes moments and supports the selfless efforts of so many heroes helping those who need it most. The Momentum Fund donated $1000 to Mercy Corps to help with the reconstruction and aid effort in Haiti.
